Dear Family and Friends:
We laughed about getting
the car yesterday, because it was 45 degrees, whereas, last week when we had to
give up the car the temperature felt like -30. Oh well! We
survived, but have been enjoying the warmer weather, even though there was an
ice storm and so the sidewalks were covered in ice!
Well this past week was hopefully
the last week that we will have to be riding the bus here in Des Moines,
because Elder Simmons told us yesterday at church that the car Sister Brown and
I are supposed to be getting will be ready sometime this week!
Highlights from the week:
Wednesday we had Hermana Stroud come
with us for the day since her two companions were sick. We had an
appointment with Jackie, who is a former from the Elders from last March.
This was the first time teaching her, but it was wonderful! We were able
to teach the restoration, but tailor it to her and apply it to things that she
could relate to. She was excited to begin reading from the Book of Mormon
again, and everything was going well, but when we invited her to church that is
when she hesitated.
I have realized how much
I do not know about most of the standard works. I have only read the
Doctrine and Covenants all the way through once, have read the Book of Mormon
many times, but really haven't touched the other books. But I do love the
scriptures and how much we can learn from them and how relevant they can be in
our own lives if we allow them to be!
Friday we had zone training
meeting! Also, we met the senior couple that is now serving in
the Des Moines ward! Basically I love the senior couples and hope that I
have a set in each of the areas that I serve in! So Friday evening the
Crapo's came over to our apartment and Sister Brown and I helped them learn how
to use their phone and the little bit of information that we know about the
area!

Saturday afternoon we had interviews
with President and Sister Jensen. I am happy to report that these
interviews were so much better than the last ones I had where I had a
breakdown. I am so thankful to be doing so much better and to be back to
my happy self! Now I am able to laugh about the struggles I had a couple
of months ago, but oh I sure hope that that is the lowest point on my
mission. But even President and Sister Jensen were able to laugh about it
with me. It is amazing the love I have for them and the love that I can
feel from President and Sister Jensen! They truly are called by God to
lead the Iowa Des Moines Mission!
Sunday, the ward was having a
combined 3rd hour and so they had the missionaries (all 14 of us) cover
all of the primary, deacons, and beehives classes. haha we survived and I
actually had fun watching us try to act like we knew what was going on.
Love the life of a missionary! Also, Bishop asked if any Sunday that the
organist isn't able to play the prelude music, if I would start playing prelude
before the organist gets there. . . . Love being a missionary!
Okay recently I have been fascinated
about conversion stories, all conversion stories. And so as I was
studying some this morning I loved how humility plays a vital role in all
of the conversion stories. How both humility and conversion is the
process of submitting our will to Heavenly Father's will and as we are on our
pathway of conversion we are called to strengthen our brethren (Luke 22:32).
Love you lots,
Love, Sister Call
