Dear Family & Friends:
It is starting to get hot and humid in Iowa and the corn is starting to grow!
We had exchanges this past week and I was able to spend the day with Sister Alston, who was also trained by Sister Thompson! As we were emailing we got a call from V who we were supposed to go see, but she was taking her mom to the hospital and had to cancel. With no appointment, we decided that we would still go down to the town of Solon and go finding, which we were down there between 3:00-5:00 p.m. and it was surprising because someone answered at almost every house that we tried! It was a great day because we were able to find several potentials and Sister Alston is really good at using her personality as she talks and testifies to different people. It was neat, because one lady that we met has a cousin that is on a mission in Oklahoma, and another person we met attended the Mormon Trek High school near Osceola, IA. Anyways after dinner we were supposed to have a lesson with AJ, but when we showed up at the Marriett's home, Nancy was in the hospital. There was something about people going to the hospital on Tuesday. We were still able to have a lesson outside, but AJ has schizophrenia and some days are worse than others, and Tuesday happened to be one of the not so good days.
Wednesday we called up Mickey to see if we could visit and if she needed any help with her yard work. And it was the perfect day for it, there was a cloud cover, and Mickey had decided to put a roast into the crockpot earlier that morning so it all worked out that we were able to help her out. The neat thing to was that she had been telling others that she would like her flowerbeds weeded, but she had never made mention to us, so it was an answer to prayers!
Friday we were able to visit V and help her plant her garden. We also had a lunch appointment with the Yancey's and then visited Judy Askew. But the high light for Friday was we got a phone call from the Garvin's who had run into an old time friend at the store and they got talking. There friend has a grandson on a mission and another grandson with his call, so the Garvin's asked if she would like to meet with the Sister Missionaries and she was excited for that! We've tried contacting her, but haven't got a hold of her yet. . . but according to the Garvin's she is Golden!
Saturday we were able to come in contact with several people that previous sisters have met while finding, we then had dinner with the Griffith's who are not members, but their son joined the church several years ago, served a mission in Albania, and is currently attending BYU. So the Griffith's have the missionaries over every so often!
Sunday's are always so wonderful, especially on Fast Sunday's where you are able to feel the Spirit in even greater abundance! No one that we have been working with showed up, but we were able to go and see Paula after church and we had called her to see if she was coming this morning, but she fell back asleep after we called her, so she didn't make it.
Anyways, I hope you all have a wonderful week!
