Winter in Iowa

Dear Family & Friends:
Something that I read this last week mentioned something that goes along the lines of "each of the bumps and detours in our path, is the straight and narrow path of the Savior"  or something like that saying that each trial we have is placed in our lives, so that we have the best chance to come to our Savior and follow His teachings!
Well this week is the last week of this transfer so by tonight we should know if we are staying together for another transfer.  (most likely we will be staying together, but you never know).

Anyways we still had some tender mercies and miracles during the week, despite the cold and stormy weather.

Last Monday evening we went to visit Carrie in the hospital and we had planned sharing something short with her that evening, but when we arrived she said that she wants to read the Book of Mormon with us starting with the beginning and working our way through.  So we read 1 Nephi 1 with her.  Right as we finished the respitory therapist came into the room and as she was in the room she began to ask questions about what church we were with and what not.  Well come to find out she doesn't even work at this particular hospital, but they needed her to fill in for that evening, and had we shared the shorter message that we had planned on we probably would have never met her.  She wasn't quite ready for us to come and teach her, but she did ask for our card and mentioned that she might come to church one Sunday.  Carrie was super cute during it all too!  She said that she hadn't been to church in 50 years and was just now coming back and that the nurse could come with her!

Scraping off Anastasia (the car).

Tuesday it snowed all day!  And I love the snow and get so excited every time it snows.  We also started an English class with some of the Karen families from Burma.  They are so cute and little Nan Ku is the grandma and always gives  us a big hug at the end of the lesson and says "thank you, thank you so so much"
Anyways with the snowy roads we were so grateful to have an AWD vehicle, because the elders got stuck 4 times this last week, and we didn't have any troubles!

Wednesday was neat, so we have been trying to recognize unplanned service opportunities and so we drove to Jackie's and she wasn't home so as we were driving back we passed an older lady who was shoveling her driveway.  Sister Brown and I turned and looked at each other and both said that we needed to go back. So we turned the car around, found a parking spot and went over to the woman and helped finish shoveling her driveway!

Thursday evening we got a call from our ward mission leader asking if we could come to an interfaith panel that was taking place that evening, luckily we didn't have to be on the panel, but there was a former stake president on there as well as a Muslim, a Hindu, a Lutheran minister, and a Jewish Rabbi.  So it was very interesting to hear different beliefs, but it made me ever so grateful for the restored gospel in my own life!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday were all good and we were able to visit with some less actives, as well as teach Francis.  But come Sunday, no one we have been working with made it to church so that is always a little disappointing.  Anyways I hope you all have a wonderful week and a wonderful Valentine's day.

I love you all!

Love, Sister Call

p.s.     I got Grandpa's book and letter!  So amazing!  I love the book and can't believe he was willing to give it to me!  I am having a hard time putting it down and it makes me appreciate the sacrifices made by the early saints who were my ancestors!  it also clicked last night that just on Grandpa Call's line there were at least 24 individuals that crossed the plains, and with pioneer ancestry in each of my lines we could easily have around 100 pioneer ancestors!
